The Malayan Xpedition is Malaysia's largest overlanding expedition. A six-day, five-night convoy through Pahang's interior, it brings together 4WD enthusiasts, outdoor communities, and conservation-minded explorers for a journey that goes well beyond the trail. This year, ALPAKA was part of it.

Here's what went down.

The Festival: Adventure Fest at The PARC

On Saturday, September 12, The PARC in Subang Jaya became ground zero for Malaysia's overlanding scene. The 4 Wheels Fest & Adventure Festival drew hundreds of adventure enthusiasts, filling the space with camping gear, outdoor survival tools, hunting knives, portable stoves, vehicle parts, and overlanding accessories.

ALPAKA set up a booth right in the middle of it.

On display was a selection from our collection, headlined by the Vertex Mission Sling, our collaboration piece with Malayan Xpedition built specifically for off-terrain and travel enthusiasts. The booth stayed busy all day. Visitors spun the wheel with their purchases to win gifts. The three biggest winners walked away with rare ALPAKA bags: two took home an Alpha Sling, and one left with a Shift Pack.

Outside of the ALPAKA booth, the organizer ran their own lucky draws throughout the festival. ALPAKA gear featured among the prizes, alongside a full car rim set, tomahawks, cash vouchers, and the grand prize that had the whole venue buzzing: a Toyota Prado MX90 Special Edition, reworked for expedition-grade terrain.

Vertex Mission Sling: Built for This

ALPAKA sponsored over 150 Vertex Mission Slings for the expedition, each fitted with an exclusive Malayan Xpedition patch and interior label.

The Vertex Mission Sling was designed for exactly this kind of environment. It is weather-resistant throughout and comes with two detachable straps that mount directly to MOLLE panels, vehicle seat backs, drawer systems, or camp setups. On the trail, it stays secured and accessible inside the vehicle. Off the trail, detach the MOLLE straps, clip on the padded shoulder strap, and carry it crossbody.

The front panel features a patch panel that ships with the exclusive collaboration patch. A magnetic front flap folds open and locks into desk caddy mode, turning the sling into a standing organizer for quick access to your kit. The front zipper pocket stays reachable even in caddy mode.

Inside, you can organize tactical gear, first aid essentials, tech, and tools. Multiple internal pockets keep things sorted, including a tablet sleeve, rear zip pocket, and two front slip pockets. A dedicated side webbing slot holsters a two-way radio for trail comms, and the whole thing is compatible with the ALPAKA HUB ecosystem.

The Sendoff: 120 Vehicles

Sunday morning, September 13, was the sendoff.

120 vehicles lined up for the start of a 6-day, 5-night expedition across two routes: the Explorer route for those wanting to have fun and the Adventure route for experienced drivers looking for a challenge. The Explorer route covered approximately 649 km. The Adventure route, 676 km.

A traditional lion dance kicked things off as the line of 4WDs rolled out, followed by a kompang performance that sent the convoy on its way. From there, it was six days of trail, jungle, and river.

What Happens on the Trail

The expedition’s approach is community-driven. Expert guidance is available for everyone, beginners are welcome, and the expedition follows a strict leave-no-trace policy.

Malayan Xpedition is built around a principle: explore with purpose. The convoy doesn't just pass through the landscape. It stops to contribute.

Along the route, participants helped fix village-wide water supply infrastructure for Orang Asli communities, restored native trees including hardwood and edible fruit species, and worked to revive keystone species like fig trees that support the broader rainforest ecosystem. The expedition's environmental mission also supports the Al-Sultan Abdullah Royal Tiger Reserve and gives back to local communities along the way.

Beyond conservation, the trail was packed with activities: a cooking challenge where participants prepared meals with limited supplies in the wild, jungle games designed for families and all fitness levels, wild river crossings and jungle trekking, and the MX Adventure Route, a technical off-road course that tested vehicle performance, driving precision, navigation, and endurance.

After the expedition, content creator awards recognized the best photography, videography, and storytelling captured naturally by participants throughout the journey.

The KOLs on the Ground

The expedition attracted a strong lineup of international and Malaysian creators.

From Thailand: Suthada Jongjaiphar. From Taiwan: Stewart Chung (Chung, Han-Wei) and Paul (Chou, Po-Chien). Malaysian KOLs on the ground included Tony Eusoff, Jasmine Sarah, Grace Padan, Pajero Life, Wayne Wong, and Aaron Khor, each bringing their own perspective to the expedition and their audiences along for the ride.
