AXO-WHO? X-WHAT? A SIMPLE GUIDE TO ADVANCED MATERIALS

Not everyone’s fluent in the language of textiles. With names like X-Pac® and Axoflux, our fabrics can sometimes sound more like sci-fi technology than stuff you’d turn into a bag. So if you’re new to ALPAKA, you’re not a technical fabric aficionado, or you just want an easy overview of the fabrics we use, this guide’s for you.

THE BASICS: ALPAKA FABRICS 101

EXTERNAL FABRICS
We currently use three primary families of fabric in our designs:

Axoflux and X-Pac® make up the majority of the external fabric in our range. Axogrid is a new addition to the lineup, but we expect it to grow quickly.

INTERNAL LINING FABRICS

The internal linings in our bags are generally lighter weight than the exterior. They are made from either polyester or nylon, and come in three different patterns:

All three ripstop weaves are designed to help prevent snags and tears from sharp edges.

The linings come in either a Cool Grey or Vivid Orange color, both of which add bright contrast to the interior of your bag, helping you see your contents clearer.

A NOTE ON DENIER

You’ll notice that all of our fabric names include a ‘D’ number. The indicates denier, or ‘weight’ of the fabric. A higher number refers to a thicker thread, and more robust weave.

THE HOMEGROWN TALENT: AXOFLUX AND AXOGRID

We developed these fabrics and produce them ourselves, in partnership with trusted mills. By creating our own fabrics, we’re able to offer exceptional quality and performance at a competitive price point.

We get it, our materials can be overwhelming if you’re not familiar with them. Our handy Materials Page offers more insights and photo samples of each. And if you’re still struggling, our helpful support crew is always happy to answer your questions, and make recommendations.
